Labor Day

Can you believe that my son had a football game on Labor day!? Someone dropped the ball on that one, at least it's not mother's day although that has happened also. The coaches told my son along time ago that he would being doing double duty, varsity and junior varsity. They (our high school) lack a lot in the area of particular positions such as center which is all my son has ever played. Much to my surprise....my son is captain of the jv team, here he is for the toss off, #52.

The weather in Maine was co-operative on Labor day, one of the beautiful days we have had this year. I would of liked to have a cook-out but instead we were here, at a home game, but! Later that evening my son had practice for the varsity. Okay, enough is enough, 'cept the attendance is most important, it meant my son would start in the next varsity game, ONLY if he attended and reviewed the mistakes they made on Friday. (Varsity plays Fridays, JV on Mondays)

After practice my son had a conversation with the varsity coach who wants him at defensive tackle. My son felt if he were to start at this position he would need a crash course. The coach was leaving it to him what position he wants on Friday but felt his performance was playoff quality, as tackle. See, my son is first substitute for all 5 line man. It's unusual for on player to be posted in every slot as every position. 3rd subs would be five different players, Yah! That means he plays always! Utility player is worth working hard!
And he has. C&G Design

  4. Growing up in a house with 3 brothers and my father coaching them in Baseball, Basketball and Football, I know the things one must give up for their sports. But I got a new car at 18 so I am not complaining :-).. Cookout, why not a hotdog at the concession stand? That was my meal many a night and I still love a hotdog when I go to a game. LOL....

Hard work can and does pay off and sometimes in the form of college scholarships…

  7. Oh, you are a brave Mom. Good for his hard work and spirit.

Did you see my blue sky? Yupper, right here in New England where it is an endangered species based on the summer.

Caught up on posts...for some reason I thought you were gone for a little vacation. Love the pink geranium!

  8. Go # 52. Ooh I love a good football game. I wish I could have gone to Dawn. I would have booted it right on over if we had lived close by. Keep pushing college scholarship all the way. Oh how exciting. Now you asked about my little witch pumpkin. Last year they sold them at Michael's. I ended up buying two of them. One for me, and one for my DIL who has her entry and kitchen area done in purple grapes. The witch has purple long strands of hair, which I just adored. I was so excited to bring her out this year. I just love her. I am so tickled that someone else loved her as much as I did. I didn't see them out this year. I keep looking for new pumpkins though. I am going to have a pumpkin patch when I am through. Have a wonderful evening sweetie. Country hugs, Sherry

  10. I am so sorry. It is hard when your son is good at football. I always hated all the extra practices. I can not understand the joy they get. Being hit by someone who is twice your size. I am not a good football mom. It sounds like you are very good at it. I tip my hat to you. That is just what a son needs. That was always a big stretch for me. Blessing to you and your son. Martha
