A contender for the acting part of Dorthy in the Wizard of Oz, she was unavailable at the time of production, but Temple's dog played the part of Toto.

It was said to extend her babyhood.
In later life, Shirley became a politician and diplomat, she was a good will ambassador of the United States to Czechoslovakia from 1989-92.
She is one of those icons that will be around forever. What a shame to not know your true age when you are a kid-now when you are older-it's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteEvery now and then, I enjoy watching her old movies. Had never heard about her birth date revision. Guess some of the things said about'stage moms' was true.
ReplyDeleteThose are really cute little outfits. When I was young I liked paper dolls better than regular dolls.

I watched Shirley Temple movies on TV as a child. I use to love the paper dolls, too. My mom is just a bit younger than her.
ReplyDeleteMeant to leave a note on the felt ornaments. I bought lots of felt last year at a church sale to make these. We shall see. I do love yours!
Wonderful information!
ReplyDeleteGlad you survived the weekend of pre-teen girls!!
Like Tina said, she is an icon. As a child I remember her in the movies and wanted her hair. Having lived with my thin hair all these years, I would still like to have her hair!!
ReplyDeleteMy Dad was born the same day, month and year as Shirley. That's why I always remember her birthday. I loved her while growing up,and still do. I watched all her movies. And I adore paper dolls...my favorite "toy" when I was a child. Have a great day Dawn! Hugs, Kathleen
ReplyDeleteWhat an accomplished actress she is/was. So cute with those bouncy curls.
ReplyDeleteI never knew about her age situation. How awful to not know your true age.
I like the paper dolls also.
Paper dolls would entertain me for hours and such an inexpensive form of entertainment. But then again, I could find entertainment in an old box and some yarn as a child. ha ha... I have not caught a Shirley Temple Movie on the Classic Movie channel in a while. I wonder if I missed a recent marathon while doing something other then watch TV. I love her innocent movies...
