When Madame expressed a interest in making the squad next year in middle school it became more of a reality for me, she has no experience, no tumbling, no idea....and no clue. Fortunately our school turns no one away, everyone makes a team, the competition cheering is another story though. Well, I dropped more buck-a-roos ($) on a outfit where the hair ribbon cost more than the socks and almost as much as the cropped undershirt. "Are you sure about this, mom doesn't care for the outfit as much", yes, she is too sure. Madame even fund raised her amount needed so that I only had to pay for half the outfit.
So.. today's post is about the sneaks I bought, doesn't the cheerleaders just get white sneakers anywhere and hope for the best? NO. I reserved judgement until I saw what my money bought. Nice white sneakers with a side pouch for your school colors. Could ya just die!?! See where I loosened the shoe strings to show the red color on the opposite side of the yellow? Green and gold are our school colors, Vegas gold to be exact. Ha!
Now, here I thought so little of the cheerleaders when I went to school and now I'm being impressed with the sneakers they jump around in.Madame got an effort award this week, she'd missed practice last Sunday due to preforming in the nutcracker so she had to do double time with her stunts. Yahhh, maybe this will be a good thing.......ya think?

ReplyDeleteCan you imagine? Cheerleading has come a long way since my time. It was still saddle oxfords back then. Now they actually have shoes with supports. Imagine that.
I am so tickled for your sweet daughter. This will bring her some happiness. So she also does ballet? They she should be really good. Very limber.

Oh Dawn...I felt the same way about cheerleaders in high school! I guess I still do. My daughter was not interested at all but she was a great student. She was and still is a great writer and artist, so that is the direction she went. Isn't it great that you are able to take a different look at it through your daughter? I just checked out your etsy and you have some awesome stuff! What a busy girl you have been!

ReplyDeleteSo many things today are about the #1 beauty queen thing. It is ver sad as it is the parents, in my humble opinion that have made it that way. The high cost of everything comes under the same header, as it is the adults outdoing the next person and giving the kids EVERYTHING. Did I say sad? Well, sigh, very sad. When I was in school the school provided the outfit for the cheerleaders and then they wore their own sneakers. I do not remember that anyone noticed that they all had different sneakers on. We loved them anyway. Times have changed, a lot of the change has been for the good but a lot has not. Well there is my rant for today and I am sticking to it.

Congratulations to Madame for her cheerleading abilities. She will be a great one and with a mom like you, I don't think she will ever be the "all for me, look at me, I'm number one" type. She's a lucky girl to have someone as sweet as you for a mom..
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great experience. I was into 4-H as a kid and not into cheerleading but if the school allows all kids to participate, I think it's great.
