Oriental Transfers

I found a wonderful book while thrifting the other day, I love it! It's so rare to find a craft in the oriental flare besides a kimono. It's a soft cover book with 24 iron on transfers. The above motif would be used for a prince robe. A lot of work involved in that dragon.

The peonies would be a detail on a Japanese Buddhist priest robe or a Kesa. I love a Japanese garden watercolor or embroidery, the flowers are so vivid and simple at the same time.

These three transfers would be found on a black kimono, probably a wedding garment. Most all the children were painted on in greens, yellows and others with muted color (the flowers).

The book takes all the scenery from the museum of textiles and explains the periods in a brief content.

It states the children would be appropriate in the long and short stitch since that is much like paint.

Ok so when do you find the time to go thrifting and also start another project too??? My God girl...you never stop! Really pretty designs. Do you think you were a Japanese woman in your past life? My daughter just took a past life regression class...sorry...must be thinking of that!

Another good find.

The Mardens add in the paper a couple of days ago, they had several garden items. The addresses for Mardens had 4 listed for southern Maine but Lewiston was not among them. I will have to check on line and see if the Lewiston one is still there. If so I will call and see if you are going to Lewiston soon.

Hi Dawn, it's nice to be back. Love these asian designs. My step-son brought me a robe from Viet Nam went he went there a few years ago. Red with beautiful dragons. I loved the pics of your wedding. I am amazed you made your own wedding dress...well maybe not that amazed, knowing you. How long have you been sewing anyway? About all I can make is a place mat. Good to talk with you, big hugs, Kathleen
