The Blue Ribbon Campaign

I have ALWAYS honored and respected the ribbon campaign, thee is several but the most recognized ribbon is the PINK ribbon for breast cancer.
After yesterdays post and now related to me is the BLUE ribbon. I'd like to let my readers know about the BLUE ribbon and what it means.
The most used BLUE ribbon known to us all are the first place award for the best. The best quilt, the best pie, the best grown veggies and best in show. I believe everyone in one way or another has had a blue ribbon awarded in their family with much excitement.
Thanks to the ribbon awareness campaign, BLUE and other colors have become so much more.

Tissue Paper Flowers

Last night was Madame's moving on ceremony (Graduation from Elementary school, grrr!) Psst.....what is a moving on....it's when they say...."Get out!" Just kidding. Well, I put myself on the decorating committee and got elected (ha!) for the gift committee. Here is my idea for decorating........I hope for a non-wedding atmosphere!

The first flower I made is petaled, I quartered my paper and cut my half rounds.

Then I fanned the paper with the flower side out.

Wrapping the pipe cleaner around the center, I pulled the five layers of paper apart. I like this flower although finicky about staying round sometimes.

Then I frayed the long side of the paper (group of five), and fanned the short side.....

to get this carnation like flower, pretty huh? Protector of Vintage sent me a book about tissue paper flower I wished I could find but don't cha know it! I think it is in one of my 6 piles of craft books. I can't get this studio quick enough!

Anyway I cut a boat shaped leaf, taped it in the middle on both sides of the tissue and poked the pipe cleaner through to for a leaf.

I'm not sure why but these remind me of pond lilies, don't they look like them?

After having a brain storm with the Christmas ribbon being the center of the flower, all my 14 dinner plate sized pretties were done.

Silk Ribbon Flowers

One of my favorite looking embroidery technique is silk ribbon. This type of needlework is best for flowers and is rather quick moving as a nice embroidered project can be. Here are some of the commonly used stitches in making the flowers. Obviously the straight stitch is done in two parts and usually this is the stem stitch when talking about floss or crewel work. The back stitch again, looks like the completed stem stitch but the loose alteration of these stitches are to provide a easier placement of the ribbon. Both stitches, along with the split stitch, are used in outlining. The other three illustrated stitches are pretty self explanatory.
I use silk ribbon application only on cloth that won't be washed frequently, washing destroys the dimension silk ribbon embroidery is known for.
