I picked these cute ones up at a thrift shop this week and I have no idea what they are, my best guess is a moose, but....they can be a bear. Definitely a Ann of some sort, too cute.

I drove all the way down to Massachusetts and all the way back and the only side track was a wrong route in Buxton, Maine. I zigged when I should of zagged.
Who knew? Maine is a host to these wonderful retro diners? We saw another on the way back, somewhere below Scarborough, but it wasn't operating. Who knew? I mustn't get out that often. But on this day, getting lost afforded me to snap a few photos of this restaurant.
The '72 Chevy was the cherry, what a added bomb, I wished we had the time to eat here. Just passing through though.
I found another beauty at Goodwill the other day, she is Ruth made by Horseman. At first I could not locate an identity until I read Ruth dolls have a T-14, T-16 or T-18 for a marking at the back of the head. Mine is marked "Horseman T-16". The number represents the size in inches. There are alot of Ruth dolls, some with long hair, some with a slightly different face mold as she still is being made today.
I was surprised to see the dirty legs of Ruth sticking out from underneath some other toys. I could tell she was old as she dates to the late 50's. After putting on my glasses (yuck) and reading the marks on the neck, I sort of, kinda, held Ruth close to me. Another shopper, older lady, declared to me that "they have such good dolls here, just look at the ones over there....one has a teddy at her feet." I didn't have the heart to tell her the porcelain dolls are.....just that. I did look down at Ruth though and discovered I was hugging her.
I think I could almost squeal when I saw she still had her original clothing on although missing her nurses cap which shouldn't be a problem.
I can remember bidding on a Ruth doll when I first was a member of EBay. She was composition and I wanted her bad. Well, it was grocery shopping day and I'd forgotten I left a bid two days before, she was sold to someone for a fraction of what I had for a bid. I remembered her while driving home and called my husband but I was too late. :(
Ruth is a very early doll for Horseman, the vinyl doll was in production as early as 1950, the first dolls had dimpled knees, both in the front and in the back like the model shown above. By the late fifties, her knees had become more rounded as in my doll and the one below. Into the sixty, her face had changed slightly, her value varies, perfect condition dolls are listed from $80 to $150 on EBay.

First though about this lovely box was, "It is a cigar box stuffed with crafts." Well, I was surprised. It's a fancy pen and ink. Where is my calligraphy pen? What a nice set I'll have.
Both my pens have a reservoir for the ink. Both pens write soooo smoothly.
Yea! Super breakout! Atari! Can you remember? Let us not forget. Mine still works, of course it helps to purchase another one at GW many moons ago.
My Nintendo doesn't do so well, all the games are apparently dry and need re-lubing with spray contact cleaner but, yes! It to will play.

The little blue one was the very first....she has a music box for a stand and when it's wound, she spins. (slowly)

Mostly what you see from my first purchase is recognisable dolls, one pattern is a baby crawling, this one is Kewpie! I've never seen a cloth Kewpie and I'm anxious to see how all the little details are done.
And who doesn't know Humpty Dumpty, the only difference is the pattern is large enough to make it a pajama bag. It reads the pattern can be a large doll though, either way....I was getting this one! Wouldn't he look great painted and varnished?
I purchased the crawling baby because I'm intrigued about the steadiness of the arms and legs, chances are the fabric needs to be cut on the bias, diagonally to the weave.
And the boudoir clothing pattern! Now you can see what my doll will be wearing! (the little items are a hat and garter)
The examples I've seen also has a attached bonnet to the body, the idea is to always have 3 dolls in one while caring for only one. Trudy is very cute and she was a instant hit.
Very few, excellent conditioned Trudy's survive today. And frankly, it's something indescribable to see the head mold, it's seamed around all faces. I guess if you weren't a doll lover.....you could describe it.
I find the little tuffs of hair so adorable, they must be attached to inside the bonnet.

Next, we see the classic boudoir doll, I found these to be called "keen eyed", I'm assuming it's because their eyelids are halfway shut. Notice how thin they are, one person described the limbs as like a sausage.
This is the boudoir doll that I would like to have, many of them adorned beautiful full gowns with puffy sleeve cuffs, others had straight shifts. I think the lounging pj's make the statement about what the doll represents.
Here is what I have, you can see Trudy is not the real Trudy but a porcelain image. She is quite large and heavy. I paid $3.00 for her and the hot pink body she was attached to. I removed it because not only was it a bad proportion, it was downright ugly.
I tell ya, I printed the boudoir doll pattern from DIY, the doll is Jiliana, she is pretty but a @!#?! to stuff!
