Pink Saturday

It's pink Saturday today (Saturday, of course!) Click over to Beverly's for a list of other bloggers who decide to post pink on this day also.

Today, I've elected to photograph my mailbox geranium. In years past I've had such difficulty growing anything in this little wooden box but not this year, we have had so much rain, I was worry free about the poor plant drying out so quick. It's beautiful especially considering the roots are in three inches of soil. I'm proud of myself. To think the person who delivers my mail would see this every time he stops....well something as little as that would make my day.

This is what convinced me to try this planting again, the pink and the white flower on the same plant. I was hoping it would stay that way but alas! No such luck.

And of course, my plants wouldn't be complete with out a photo of my sweet potato vine. I managed to nurse it through the winter and ended up with a few leaves the filled out nicely.

Puzzling Project

Tonight was open night at the Elementary School, we have attended every year for the last 11 years, today was our last. Hard to believe they grow so quick.

Anyway, the older Madame gets, the variety of her projects expands, I can't complain, I'm grateful she is not wrapped up in video games.

And since Dad is skilled in the area of puzzles, he volunteered to help Madame with her 1000 piece puzzle, I told her to watch out, he'll take over.

Which, it's kinda nice when it happens with cooking. (I must teach Madame to appear lost in the kitchen when Dad is around.)

Furry Friends

I am working on many projects but seemly unable to feel as if I'm getting as much done. I always get to feeling this way every fall, it's partly do to the heating business picking up slack and my kids being back to school, so much going on.
Today is a fun post, it's 2 pictures apiece of my kitties. I figure I haven't posted on them for a while (not that they change...much) and since they will start hanging around more, they will do the odd stuff that cats do. Woolly mammoth, he is the only one who does not let himself out and in by jumping off and on the deck, I guess 8 feet might be a bit to high for his bulk. If he did jump he'd get rid of all the debris he brings with him! Woolly is a flopper, and a roller!
Doesn't he look evil? Just in time for Halloween, but let me tell ya, he is Maine coon and he is soooo sweet. My future breed and nothing else.

Veshneau, she is the hybrid Siamese that was given to us. Do you see what she likes as a current fetish? She chewed on the tips of this pile of wire and LOVED the bare copper I'd worked on!

I never met a more quirky cat than her. She glows living with us and is ecstatically happy.

Finally the recluse, Sophia, who was feeling a little frisky at this moment or maybe embarrassed that she turned and heard something in the direction of the woods, and she almost fell off the fence. Never! Had she jumped off the deck before but not to be out done by the Siamese! They both think it's awesome I kept the door open during the warm months.

A rare photo opportunity for Sophia and she seems agitated by it, no maybe it's because she was caught doing a goofball. I can tell her mood by her ears.

Raggedy Sitters

Would you want a raggedy sitter? Or would you expect, after a dinner out, that you'd come home to a raggedy sitter? That happened to me once when my son was two and we were at a fancy hotel, the sitter couldn't get out of there fast enough, she walked right by her tip I had held out in my hand! Guess a 2 year old gets quite bored in one room with two beds, and that's it.

No these are shelf sitters, aptly named because they are weighted in such they are able to hang their legs of the edge and still balance upright.

Usually made with wooden spools, they can be any character you want, some are even drilled through and through the block itself so the arms will tread into it, and fabric also. My husband made this set for me many years ago, always for me to make Ann and Andy out of, the main body is oak, they are very, very heavy and combersome.
Because the clothing is not removable the sleeves are made onto the top part of the body, the neck hole is gathered, the fabric is in a tube shape to make things easier.

Glue the rest of the shirt directly to the block, some are slightly stuffed and glued next to the bottom part of the block but I like the solidness.

Now I have a date with the sewing machine. I don't like making readers wait but, until next week! C&G Design

Photo project

Do you want to know something? Mover closer it's a secret to embarrassing to say out loud. "I haven't put photos in a album since my son was born.....he is sixteen." Oh..my..God. What I am doing now....do you see all the years? So far....each album is a year! And it is slow going. I guess I put it off until I made some nice covers for the albums. Somewhere within the years there is a vacation to Florida, that will have it's own book.

I can't wait until I have all the photos where they belong, I've even picked up a ole' family album like the one my mother has for us girls.

Ohhhh, year #3. I'm here for a while. C&G Design

Sew and Sew Couch, Part 2

Last we left we had the most of the bulk done on the 65 year old couch, I had to do the skirt. I love a piece of furniture that has a frilly skirt but, man! What a slow process and a hard task to fit it through a normal sewing machine, I must of broke 4 needles. It took me all day as I had to reposition pleats every two inches as the machine would shift the fabric to a smooth surface, by the time I finished, I felt beat up!

Did I mention my lovely blue fabric is wool? Yep, a big, ole' whooping purchase at Goodwill for 9.99 and there must of been 35 yards at 65'' inches wide, an amazing buy for a stitcher!

The arms were pretty easy as I knew they would be, this is a comfortable couch as Madame said she would sleep on it. Yep, I've done that many times after 2 c-sections, a couch comes in handy over a waterbed where effort is needed to ''rise and shine.''

Special pillows and a coffee table. Drats, Madame set the bottle of orange glow for hardwood floors down on the side of the table! Oh. Well. C&G Design.

Sew and Sew Couch, part 1

I say sew and sew because this is the second time I've recovered this couch, this time though it is going to need extra help with the arms, they really need to be re stuffed. This sad ole' couch is from 1945, I have the set, one chair with it. The reason why I want this bad piece of furniture is because it is seven and a half feet long, I challenge anyone to find a couch of that size because I have not been able. The reason why the frame has lasted through, 3 moves, a 65 lbs dog and two kids that thought it was neat to launch themselves off the arms onto the cushions, is because it's hardwood. They don't make them like they use to.
I'm off to shampoo the seat before traveling further! C&G Design
