Felt Ornaments-Poinsettia Star

I love working with felt, not only is it easy, it lends an air of folk art to its structure. The following ornament begins another series of others, everything will be made from felt. One of these days I may separate all the ornaments into the same-like group for sale, the end goal being prices as a whole tree packaged. I thinks this star is very pretty with the poinsettia flower in the center, the yellow french knots enhance the idea of this common Christmas plant.
Tulips on each point with a red french knot for the stamen, leaves in the narrow corners of the poinsettia, and white as the base of the star turned out to be very attractive.
I'd thought with the folk feel I might try to have a purple back, the color is important because it will over lap showing an edge to the star. Yellow seemed to traditional.

Nope, did not work, yellow it is......

Felt is the perfect tree ornament as it is unbreakable and won't roll away. Today, there are many more colors to choose from, camouflage, leopard striped and so on....

Pink Saturday-Two different Items

Pink Saturday again! My addition might be consider a unusual one.....two different things and both at opposite ends. I think this is a Ginger Jar from Japan. Hard to tell because it has no cover, that's long gone. Pretty.
I like this mod wig case, I use it with my doll collection as a spacious cubby for a few valuable dolls.
Maybe my two items are related.......

Few of my Favorite Things Friday

Getting busy, busy, busy now. Everyone is shopping, decorating, and menu planning, me too!

I'm still working on projects, just finding less time to get them done and in respect of the Christmas hustle and bustle, I've decided to do a simple post every Friday until the 25th. I call it "Few of my Favorite Things Friday", due to a common Christmas song played every year at this time. The first picture is of a cross stitch I did a number of years ago, it has a inexpensive clock kit while framed by a embroidery hoop. I love it.....nothing better than a garden at a glance for the time. It hangs in my kitchen, over the window that backdrops the sink.

This is a hemlock pine cone wreath, I made two others at the time I made this one, but they have been given away as gifts.

Wreaths are special in the sense they represent the continuing circle of life. My fragile scent of the woods adore the window in my dining room.

Ah....my first basket. If you look close you'll find the sides of the basket also have segmented pine cone flowers, and beads. My basket of flowers sit in my bathroom, atop the cupboard where it's undisturbed.

Intently undisturbed. C & G Design.

Gingerbread Gems

How cute are these? I purchased them for 99 cents each and what dandies they are. They seem to be ceramic, painted brown, about 6'' tall.....and that's it! They need to be cleaned up, but.....I'm wondering, should I paint them? As if a decorated gingerbread person?
This is what they look like on the flip side.
Check out the last on the left. C & G Design.

China Dolls

One of the childhood memories almost every little girl may have, is one of a China Doll. I think my first reaction to hearing about them were a bit about confusion, I thought they were oriental dolls! And what made them special over any other nations representation? Or, at least, it was something like that.

My two ladies were recently purchased at a flea market, they are not old but actually reproductions. The important, defining thing about China Dolls is the hairstyle.
Whether it's styled in a snood, a Apollo's knot (it is, what it is, think upper space) or simply waved with a part down the center. A specialist can date the China doll by the hair. Breast plates and quality of china are also observed when valuing these dolls.

Most China Dolls were never marked. C&G Design.

Every Other Day Again

Boy! Last winter season brought tremendous snowfall amounts in the month of February, every other school day was canceled due to a storm. This season of 2008 seems to be another start , er...should I say, a finished to last year.
The first picture was taken Tuesday,November 25th, five days ago. I thought it was pretty sticking to the trees, it being the first snow and all....

Then, being busy and all, I woke up Black Friday to this! Guess it's time to make sure I watch the weather report every night, we got another 4 inches.

Well.....as I type late Sunday.....the snow falls......
Pretty, beautiful, and peaceful as it is......it's early, generally we get the first fall closer to Christmas.......

Is it over yet? C & G Design.
