911

This is a re-publish from 9/11/08, it expresses what I feel about this day.
I think everyone can recognize the picture from above, it's the Pentagon.
The original structure, built in 1941, stayed the same until 2001,
When a plane filled with hating people decided it would be better to kill Americans.

Flight 93 went down in Shanksville, Penn. Forty hero's from this flight were honored for winning the first battle in the war on terrorism.
Let us not forget the bravery of the men who felt it would be better to die fighting, than die killing.

Architect Minoru Yamasaki, backed by financier David Rockefeller and brother Gov Nelson Rockefeller, unveils the plans in 1964, for the World Trade Center. The architect was an unusual choice because he had a fear of heights.
Mr Yamasaki overcomes his despair by designing the building with windows approximately 20'' wide, less the width his shoulders. The WTC officially opened in 1972.
Mr Yamasaki was quoted " My center is for man's belief in humanity, individual dignity, man's cooperation, and through this cooperation, ability to find greatness."
In Feb 1993 the WTC saw it's first attempt at trying to devastate life amongst the twin towers. A basement bomb planted and ignited killing 6 and injuring thousands.
On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center is destroyed in a terrorist act, it all came tumbling down.
Thousands lives lost, thousands suffer injury, and millions wept.
This is my tribute for those loved and lost on that day seven years ago. C & G Design.

Wow! What a super great post. I will always remember what I was doing when I heard about this. I was sleeping! Honey called me and told me we were under attack. I got scared. What an awful day for history.

Gives me chills to think about it, Madame was 3, we went to the largest fair in N.E. after that, she wore the flag...people were stopping, then realizing why they stopped. Almost had a serene look for the next generation. I actually saw it live and was on the phone with hubby when the 2nd plane flew in, bldgs came down.

Very nice tribute for that very tragic day that we will all remember with great sadness. Having my TV on 24-7 and tuned to a news channel I catch all the bad stuff as it happens or shortly after, and that day was no different so right after the first plane struck I was in my chair watching the rest as it happened and could not hardly speak as I just sat in my chair with a horrid feeling in my whole body. In the middle of it all Christy called from Germany worried about her father but could not get him by phone so wanted me to try. It took me 2 days to get thru to him and know that his family was all okay, just in shock like the rest of us.

That is a great post. I was actually in the pentagon with a few friends last year, and I got to see where they commemorated those lost. It was very cool.

I was on the computer sending a birthday wish to my friend in Texas. Computer was on the phone lines back then and my mom was trying to call me. She finally popped in with an email and told me to GET OFF the computer and call her. She called each of her kids that day, one by one. I saw it unfold as I turned on the TV. All I could do was cry and ask God Why.... We have friends that frequent the Pentagon and the Saints sister worked in downtown DC during this time. We were so relieved that everyone was safe as the calls and emails started pouring in throughout the day. The Saints father retired from the Pentagon and luckily all his former co-workers and friends were out of harms way.

Saint and I were in the process of Closing on our first house and we had to stop and wonder should we be doing this at such a horrible time for our country. We decided to go on with our happy plans as we would not let crazy radicals spoil our life. It was a biter sweet moment for us…

Hi Mom, Babe was in the 3rd grade and once the teachers found out....he watched it on tv, guess they rolled the screen in the rooms of 3,4,5,6.
Dp, I saw the monuments on GMA this am. Cantered benches towards the pentagon with the names on each one, pools of water underneath each, very nice.
Skeeter, I cried too, think everyone did, so sad when the trade center tumbled.
We decided to not let it make us afraid for our kids, so different growing up nowadays.
On a lighter note...I thought today was going to be my 100th post, nope:( Tommorrow, missed it by that much, teeny weeny bit!

A sad memory for all of us and some families are still losing loved ones connected to the terror. A lady that had been testifing at a Senate Hearing in DC had been married to a man killed in the trade center lost her life in the plane crash in upstate New York last winter. A man died just this week from what they feel was related to all the dust from the falling of the trade center. I am sure there are many more that I have not heard of. I pray for them all.
