Raggedy Sitters

Would you want a raggedy sitter? Or would you expect, after a dinner out, that you'd come home to a raggedy sitter? That happened to me once when my son was two and we were at a fancy hotel, the sitter couldn't get out of there fast enough, she walked right by her tip I had held out in my hand! Guess a 2 year old gets quite bored in one room with two beds, and that's it.

No these are shelf sitters, aptly named because they are weighted in such they are able to hang their legs of the edge and still balance upright.

Usually made with wooden spools, they can be any character you want, some are even drilled through and through the block itself so the arms will tread into it, and fabric also. My husband made this set for me many years ago, always for me to make Ann and Andy out of, the main body is oak, they are very, very heavy and combersome.
Because the clothing is not removable the sleeves are made onto the top part of the body, the neck hole is gathered, the fabric is in a tube shape to make things easier.

Glue the rest of the shirt directly to the block, some are slightly stuffed and glued next to the bottom part of the block but I like the solidness.

Now I have a date with the sewing machine. I don't like making readers wait but, until next week! C&G Design

Sorry to hear that the coons got to your corn. Ours is still doing okay for now. You and your hubby have a good attitude and it's good to laugh about it. Have a great week!

Cute. I like that you use wooden spools. I still have a lot from Nana but painted some. Some are natural and I need to do something with them.

Hi Dawn, those are cute. Loved the story about the baby sitter. Must have been hard for her in that small place with no refrigerator to eat out of;)

Ah, more anticipation from Dawn. You are worse then the ketchup bottle! lol...

I have a block doll. She is a little Dixie Girl I picked up at a Civil War Reenactment. Usually people paint the spool legs but you take it one step further with the cloth! You just kill me with your personal touches…

Very cute!!! Shelf sitters have become very pricey but I like them.
You can make so many things out of the empty spools and it keeps them from going to a landfill. Now darn you with the teasing.....

What adorable dolls these are going to be. You are very talented.I have been a crafter for 68 years or more and had a gift shop for years and am getting ready to re-open it. Lucky me - it is next door to my home. Blessings.....Pauline
