Composition Toddler, Arms, Part 4

At the time of writing this post I find myself done with removal of the paint from my composition doll. The arms were rather difficult to do because of the obvious fingers but I managed to keep them all in tact! I was really surprised to find the arms are totally different from the other hard parts of my toddler. The color of the composition doesn't match up with the others and I suspect the arms were made at a different factory.
The material is sticky and by the time I was done, it had the texture of snakeskin.

The arms may pose the biggest challenge of reworking this doll, although I've developed a secondary problem. The doll is drying out and as it does, she's managed a crack under her chin that runs the length of her neck. I've kept on top of repairing it but I've discovered that less handling is better. Below is a photo of the first layer of putty applied to the arms, I'm in the process of a second coat. I'm hoping that's all she'll need.

Just sanding left. C & G Design.

Aren't you afraid she might totally come apart? And will paint fix her up? Keep her from drying out?

Yes, I believe paint will help, she started cracking because of the twisting back into place, Jack of all trades mentioned before I started, I needed to moisten her before glueing. But I thought it would harm, maybe I should ask other doll people about oiling, compsition dolls are hard to restore. I've got the crack closed hopefully it'll stay that way. Getting paint today.

Maybe research on the Internet too.

One problem after another....that is usually the way it goes but will be worth it in the end.

Hi guys, yep quite the doings with this doll, so glad I feel rewarded when done, otherwise I'd gave up at the crack. Closed, skinny crack and I hade to pull her head to get it glued. Ead gads! I thought I was going to snap her head off at the neck! I'm going to look and see on the internet if it says something about spray oil. Might just do that anyway, lightly so the paint will stick and the putty won't crumble. Now is the time!

Nope, no oil, doll persons believe in oil for crazing eyes but it darkens the finish over time. Back to the beginning, last sanding tonight and final thin coat.
PS, really hemmed and hawed over the color, 1 shade off, yeh! Whoops, better save some for posting!
