I love the horses, especially the brown and black one. They are Comanche horses, those with move able parts. You won't find these today and mine are in great shape, they are hinged at the hoof, knee and hip. The heads are also hinged and can be moved up and down. I believe the black horse to be Thunderbolt , the middle horse is Pancho Palomino, which was also released in red.
These aren't part of the series but I thought it would be nice to show as content of the trunk. Looks as if the tan horse in the front has seen better pastures, he has a broken leg. I'm sure a little boy got hours of fun out of these. Also in the trunk was a ceramic pair of horse bookends with some one's initials. Palamino (my childhood favorite)painted and with out a chip. Hummmm....
These stately horses are from the issue of the Noble Knight and Mighty Viking series. All of those held their heads up. The two reds are duplicates with the name of Bravo, couldn't find the brown horses name, neither here or in the Comanche series, only referred to a buckskin. The tan one in the Comanche is called cream Comanche. All of these Knight horses have small wheels inlaid in their hooves. That seems to make it easy to pull the stagecoaches!
The pinto is named Storm Cloud, the Pancho palamino again, and a misc Clydesdale, which is too cute!

Some confusion about these horses as a few collectors cite this horse as Thunderbolt due to the flame on the nose, white chest and hooves.
That completes the content of the old trunk. The Johnny West play sets were issued in the 1950's and apparently collectible today. As much action figures I've seen in all the years I've been researching dolls, I've never heard of these. I still believe it's based on John Wayne and it congers up a much simpler time.

Great looking horses. I love horses. Read every book I could get my hands on in the school library when I was in high school. You sure do have a treasure & from an old treasure chest. What better a find.
I think my late husband had some of these! I remember my kids playing with them when they were little. I liked them because they were big and chunky, and at the time it seemed like all the toys were teeny tiny action figures with not a lot of movement.
There was so much to see and read about on your blog today. The kitty outfit was adorable. My nine year old is an absolute kitty cat nut. She sometimes will even meow when she answers us...which is a little strange, but funny. She just LOVES cats! We have two outside that she treats like royalty.
I am also loving the basket that lights up.I'm going to go look at it again. I may have to be a copy CAT! :)

I played with my farm animals more then any toy while a child. I loved the horses and would even tie a string on my bike handle bars and pretend I was riding a horse. I had so much fun entertaining myself this way. Ah, what innocent memories you brought back to me today....

Oh darn I forgot to say but guess what? My Orange Rose that came from Mardens has the most perfect rose on it RIGHT NOW!! Middle of November in Maine!!! How great is that?

Skeeter dear, yesterday you mentioned a prize for getting a close guess and in hindsight I should of ran a contest, today you say you are looking for a fox hunt theme, would you like some hobby horses painted different with saddles? as your prize? Maybe you can give me a idea about foxes?
Mom, I figured someone might know these, Uncle Rick was at the right age. Weather is crazy this fall, yesterday I was clear coating my bottles(for my bottle tree, Tina will be happy, hubby and I compromised!) and 2x's I had to rush outside a rescue them from the downpours!
Dawn, I was joking about a prize so will pass on the horse's. But thank you soooo much for offering. I looked on internet for a Fox Hunt themed horse and cannot find anything that I am really looking for at a decent price. I would need at least 18 or so to make them look right on the tree. A local store had the most perfect thing two years ago and I did not get them due to price. Went back later on to get them and they were sold out! Arg, they did not sell them last year and this year the store has gone out of business. My fault for being a Cheapskate.
I found horses at the Dollar Tree for a buck each but I think their scale is a bit too large for what I am after. I am a picky decorator ya know. Oh well, in time I will find the perfect thing to complete my tree. I have been working on this tree for about 4 years now and this year I am adding homemade glass balls. I found balls at Michaels with the design on them in glitter but they did not have but two boxes, I needed at least 4 to make them work. I was hesitant anyway with glitter and the cats but oh well, I really wanted them. So instead I found ribbon in the pattern and bought deep red glass balls and am attaching ribbon to the balls to make my own ornaments! The pattern is that Scottish plaid pattern you see on the Fox Hunt items. This theme got started when the Saints mom gave me her collectable Stuffed Foxes in hunt attire. I ran with the theme but a bit difficult to find such stuff in this area. I will get it completed one day and it is a bit fun looking for stuff to add each year....
What I am really looking for is the Rider on the horse. Kind of like an English Rider at the Fox Hunt. Rider is wearing red jacket with black pants, boot and hat. With the plaid trim...
Skeeter, Boy! That's quite the undertaking, I thought you meant the ole' fashioned hunts you see mostly in paintings and prints. I'll keep my eyes on the look out for the riders for you.
