Preparing a doll's wig

The white mohair arrived today (Friday) and in between the garden stuff and the...moving the rest of the junk from the mobile home! (Whew! About time!) I've managed to brush a little mohair today. This is what it looked like when I opened the box. It's really not that hard to brush mohair especially if your spinning it into yarn, you tuft it with two wire brushes. I don't spin though, although Madame and I would like to learn.
Anyway, I need fairly soft and smooth strands of this fur in order to make a doll's wig.

Note to self: Don't leave combed hair laying around where a cat will grab it and become "drunk" playing with it. Even though I only found my piece after she mauled it and passed out on it, I know my Siamese was thinking...." Hey, this fluff ball is gonna get it!"

Speaking of cats...maybe she was getting back at me for using her grooming brush. Nah, she could care less about looking pretty, and I should of worn gloves while brushing, a couple of times I had to be careful with bleeding on the hair. Those brushes are sharp!

The final stage for prepping to be wigged is the rinsing of the hair. I tied bundles with rubber bands (convenient to grab and stitch) and ran them under cold water, I hung them in the sun to dry, it makes for the nice curls again.

Can't you see a nice Santa beard? C&G Design

Sure does look like a Santa's beard. One of my gardening friends and her husband spin. They love it so much and knit a lot-in addition to gardening. Whew! You should learn it as I bet it'd be fun. Too cute on the cat. Glad you got all your junk gone. I bet the view improved by leaps and bounds.

It really does look like a beard for the jolly ole man!

Did Madame get home? That was a long time to be away for the first time ever not being nearby. She came up to see me for a couple of hours twice so that was nice.

She got home yesterday and promptly hugged her siamese! She told me she visited you. She called me sometimes 2x's a day, I think she got a smigden homesick.

Beautiful looking "beard". It sure will look pretty made up for hair on those cuties.
Cute kitty, tho.

Very cool Dawn!! I never would have known that...you ae teaching us all something new every day. I truly don't know how you find the time? I am so busy lately I barely have time to cook dinner. Love learning from you and the "drunk" cat was pretty funny.:)

It looks like a lot of work making these into something so soft. But how funny it is imagining your cat playing with it :-)

I'm dropping by from PS :-) Buddy Lee is soooooo adorable! And very full cheeks. If it were a real little boy, I might have pinched the cheeks already LOL

I caught up! Your posts are always fascinating and instructive. Something new each time. Staying in Austin until Thursday, then on to NO for a few days, then on to Vermont! What a great break. I think we may have missed the remainder of the hot humidity for the "summer". Looking forward to actually being able to open all the windows.

Loved them all, but will be posting only on one.
