Sew and Sew Couch, part 1

I say sew and sew because this is the second time I've recovered this couch, this time though it is going to need extra help with the arms, they really need to be re stuffed. This sad ole' couch is from 1945, I have the set, one chair with it. The reason why I want this bad piece of furniture is because it is seven and a half feet long, I challenge anyone to find a couch of that size because I have not been able. The reason why the frame has lasted through, 3 moves, a 65 lbs dog and two kids that thought it was neat to launch themselves off the arms onto the cushions, is because it's hardwood. They don't make them like they use to.
I'm off to shampoo the seat before traveling further! C&G Design

What a difference! I love the blue. The other sure did date it but you know it is hard to find good quality made furniture now a days. Here we have some Habitat Re-Stores. They sell some things like furniture, kitchen cabinets, all sorts of building supplies, plumbing fixtures, old windows, doors-well you get it. I found one very long couch there. It was beautiful. Too bad my house was not really big enough for such a long couch. I hope you'll post a completed picture too.

Now that is a couch my 6'3" son could stretch out on!

You are fearless! I have the fabric (of course!) to do 2 sofa, 2 chairs, 2 ottomans and more in WHITE! My dream. However, with all the rain we have had during, according to the calendar, SUMMER, I should be decorating around MUD!

I'm going to follow the comments on this one because here's my super important question:

What do your New England friends who so aptly predicted we would have no summer, say about the snowfall this winter? I need to make plans to flee if it is going to snow as much as it rained.

Wow, yet another big project for Dawn the “Dive Right In and Go For It Gal”....

We have been in the market for a new couch for about 2 years and just cannot find the one we are looking for. We want a long one that is great quality and they are just not out there any more! Most sofas today claim to sit 3 adults comfortably but we seem to only see them for 2 big rumps like ours. Hum, maybe we should be loosing rump weight instead of looking for a larger couch... Na, I likes my pizza…

Hey Dawn...leave it to you to refurbish even your couch! My God girl...is there anything you can't do??? I wish I had known, we are sending our worn and beaten 7 foot couch to the dump and I am more excited to see that go than I am getting a new one! We ended up going to Bob's Discount Furniture and got a couch, loveseat and reclining chair....all in a light sage...the chair is lighter. The couch we had was a reject from Gobeils country farm furniture...someone traded it in to get a new one! It is brown cordueroy and butt ugly! Good luck with your couch my friend...you are an absolute genious at remaking things! Amazing Dawn!

Yup, can't beat the good ole hardwood that is scarce today when it comes to furniture. I love the blue also. It will be set for another long life.

Oh Dawn!
I so love the blue. You are right, so many people today do not understand or respect the idea of a good piece of furniture. They just keep going out and buying another new one. How sad but true. You see a lot of good pieces just tossed to the street every day. I am so thrilled to know that there is still someone out there that loves their furniture and keeps on giving back to them. I can't remember the last time I saw a sofa of this size. I can't wait to see it complete. I'll be back as I want to see it finished. Thanks so much for sharing today. Please stop by and say hi. I would so love to have you visit. Country hugs honey, Sherry

A great crafter like you is the only one that would tackle a monumental project such as this. Can't wait to see the finished project.
Love it.
