Ice Jams! D#mn!!!
Do ya know what I mean!?! Let's just say you realllly have to love living in New England, you have to in order to put up with all this snow and the annoyances it brings to your peaceful living. My house is new, so new we have only lived in it a year on this past groundhogs day! What a problem this becomes if you don't roof rake the snow! This side of my (high) roof has a southern exposure and even though it is around 17 degrees, the snow is melting. The other side of this pictured roof has snow still on it because the sun is blocked by a tree. This part of the roof has a 1/2 room under it, the room isn't finished, but! Shortly! The room has a access panel to the eaves, the panel has no insulation behind it, and no matter how I try to keep the sheet insulation over to door to this room, the cats open it up! The panel is just below the bare roof. Heat escapes I'm sure. But this overhang!!!! And this is cleared! On warm days such as Wednesday the snow melts and because of refreezing on the edge, the water holds, in a puddle, on the shingles.....see my skylight tipped in the upper picture? Just need to rake, or least make openings so the water can drain........Well, this is what a ice jammed puddle did to my ceiling on that very spot! Wahhhh, Wahhhh! C&G Design.

Oh geez, that is awful. Can't you get something to put on the roof to keep the ice dams off the roof? I have heard of devices. You surely need to do something, can't have this going on. Urgh!!
Dawn, first off let me say your new blog design is adorable. I love the colors and the dolls....so "you". Second, my roof looks very similiar to yours. We have a metal roof, and usually the snow just slids off. Well, I guess the sun hasn't been out enough, and God knows it hasn't been warm enough, so most of the snow is still there. I have icicles hanging off that are a yard long. So far, no leaks....I guess we are lucky. But...the Husband is home...yes, yes, he got in at 3:00 AM this morning. Boy have I got a list of jobs for him to do! Warming up this week-end you said....so I hope your will be wonderful, Hugs, Kathleen
I forgot to say-I noticed the change right away-love it!
Hi Tina, Yes, JOAT's has relented and decided that heat tape is the way to go. I'm so bummed, we added ceiling paint to this color naturally, if we go buy iy again, it won't be the same so the whole ceiling needs painting. ohhh gosh!
Kathleen, I'm glad your hubby is home! I bet he has alot to do, winter has been rough this year, very cold. We thought about the metal roof because it last so long but the budget wouldn't handle it. Once the water was drained, no more leak but to late!!
Thanks for the compliments on the new change, I did it all by myself last night, (hubby on calls!)I just had to have it, now I know how to use the paint program!
Oh no Dawn, so sorry. That is just why we had the extra high pitch in our roof and, knock on wood, we have been lucky and never had a problem. With your house being so high anyway with the 3rd level I guess if you had as high of a pitch you would have to have those red lights on top and that might not be too good as it could leave you wide open for lots of jokes. LOL
I do like the new design, good job. It looks very crafty but I miss the part about the Babe and Madame.
Great new look Dawn!
Sorry for the icy mess. Ouch that must hurt to see your new ceiling falling like that. Arg, paint and brushes, get away! We get an occasional nail pop up on a shingle then a wet spot on a ceiling but easy repair job. Metal roof would be the way to go with easy slide for the snow and ice. My parents had one installed a few years ago and they love it. As you say, they are not cheap! Hey, I will box you some of this 60-70 degree temps and send them your way. That should melt things a bit. But only if you promise to send me some cool temps this summer!
Have a good weekend and crossing fingers for warmer temps for you!
Sorry to hear about the roof trouble!!
I thought your doll turned-out really cute!
Take care~
Eeek! I've driven by lots of places with ice dams. Thankfully I have yet to deal with one. It looks like you need to insulate that roof ASAP!
I've heard of people buying those wires to keep the ice dams away like Tina said, but I don't know how to install anything like that.
Good luck.
Wow Dawn, your new header is an eye catcher. Really neat.
Sorry about the ice problem. Sure need something to help out. That is a real bummer to have to redo your new ceiling. I'd be bawling my eyes out bout now.
I'll send you some warm temps like Skeeter said. Will that help!!!
Hi guys,
Mom, funny with the airplane/runway warning lights. It is very high and doesn't slide off. I guess on the deck side (pictured) It's not so hard to rake. Ps. I was hesitant about Madame and babe but we all know who they are.
Skeeter, Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for the gumballs. Madame thinks they are very neat and keeps asking questions I don't know, like...what's inside? I'll have to send you a wreath. They are alot! Wow! And did you know....only two whole items of sweetgum on Etsy? Can't wait but I promised I'd finished the 3 projects I'm on. 2 down 1 to go!
Protecter of vintage, boy you blog was busy, busy, busy the other day. So many beautiful vintage thingys. Thanks for the compliment.
Cinj, believe it or not, this roof has 6 inches of pink insulation and blown in stuff ontop of it. I think the attic door w/o a piece of insulation has something to do with it, other than that, maybe the whole inside walls from my radiant heat! God, let's hope not.
Hi lola, we posted at the same time! Yes! Everyone would like warmer temps. Found another frozen house today, gosh my guys haven't finished the first one! Guess my ceiling could be worse, just wanted a five year break from home improvement. Guess we'll have to seek the builder, wait! Oh, that's us!
Dawn, you do not have to send me a wreath. You are so busy busy busy dont worry about it. I am glad you have a use for them as they are a pain in my butt. Just send me pics of your creations so I will not hate them so much. lol
I have tons more if you would like some more, just let me know.... I have some dried and there are tons on the ground that I will pick up if you need them... Not going to pick them up if I dont have a need to though. Too many... :-)
Have a good weekend...
Your blog looks so lovely! Pink...blooms...spring....summer...
As for that snow on the roof - a lot of roofs in the NW suffered from it this winter. It killed one of my best trees, right at the front door! Good luck with your ceiling fix!
Been there, done that, Dawn! We just need Spring!
