A picture quilt can be your house, landscape with horizons, or even leaves of a particular tree, but always a theme. The color fabric of the picture is appliqued, with embroidery being the main staple of detail.
A variation of the picture quilt is the portrait quilt, it is assembled the same way. Many quilters use a group of textiles, such as this Marilyn Monroe done in silks. The quilting is generally a wave pattern.
Plan on investing in a whole lotta scotch guard. C & G Design.

Why do you need scotchgard?
I would protect it with something that was stain resistant, also I'm not sure I'd use it.
Quilts that tell a story. How neat is that...
I'd love to get one going for me but can't think of a subject yet.
I know, Dawn. I have been trying to think of a theme. I started one with Billy in mind, since he is a singer or was in his Glory days. I had in mind all these musical notes and microphones and lyrics,,,etc. with the name of the band in the center..but I never got around to it. I still might do it.
I can't wait to see yours, when you pick out a theme. I know it will be awesome!
That's a good theme Eve! If we ever take a family picture, (before my son gets to old), I kinda like to do that but I'm thinking that would be quite challenging. I just love Marilyn.
Marilyn is awesome and it must have been quite the job. I have read that faces are the hardest thing to do. Since I am not artist at all, I don't know.
