Umping

Too funny, Babe is now old enough to ump league games. It's his first real job! Too bad it seems like little league all over again, when a young player would stand in shear boredom and play with his/her hat....or the dirt.

"What did that kid say?" I really wouldn't like to warn a coach about his players!

All kidding aside, my son requested to only ump with his dad, Babe can do just bases this year and not home plate.
These pictures were taken at his only game where he worked with another home plate umpire, taken by my husband who had just come from his own game. My son filled in at the last minute.
Here is where I can tell about my son's comfort level. He is checking his clicker, all the home plate umps have one in order to keep track of the balls, outs and strikes. My son has one of his dad's older clickers. He is double checking on the home plate ump! Snicker, snicker.

First base foot shuffle......

"You can't be buttering up the ump! Can you?"

Action!

Happy anniversary! Happy Pink Saturday!

What a handsome son...okay, have to say it again, Don't you just love love love watching "our" kids grow up? It is the greatest. (I hear grandkids are the best, but I have a few years before that.)

That is a great post - I echo our Nancy, it is just a blessing to watch and share in the journey.

OMG....I had no idea! How many kids do you have? For some reason I thought you just had madame?? How cool is that to watch him! He seems to be taking it all very seriously. I like how you blurted out the childs face...at first I thought it was an umpire mask on the boy.:) Cool blog...how many other children do you have that I don't know about? Is it just the two? Inquiring minds want to know!

A good job for him indeed. Especially since he played for so long.

Cool, nice photos of him at his newest adventure. They sure do grow up quickly. Does not seem that long ago when we were waiting for you to give birth to him. Good going Zack!!!

I laughed when I read the part about the young players, i.e. playing with their hats, kicking the dirt, etc...That's exactly what my littlest one was doing at the beginning of the season!!! I often feel sorry for those young umps. Some of the coaches take the game too seriously and get a bit nasty with the umps.

Good Job Babe! I must admit he looks a bit timid but this is normal with all new things in life. Am sure by the next game, he will be an old hand at it...

How old does one have to be in order to ump? I always thought that umps were all once coaches. lol goes to show what I know. I am so out of the coaches and ump things these days and have two brothers which are coaches for different girls softball High School teams! My dad has knots in his stomach watching them play against each other. Who do you root for? lol...
